Capitalisation project approved!

Taking the next step towards better hen longevity and welfare across North-West Europe

We are excited to announce that the OMELETTE capitalisation application has been approved! This marks an important new chapter for the project and creates an opportunity to build on the knowledge, experience and results developed so far — and bring them to an even wider audience.

With the capitalisation project, OMELETTE is taking its next steps towards improving hen longevity and welfare by expanding the reach and impact of its Longevity Action Plan (LAP), strengthening its practical application and bringing its results to new regions, including Ireland.

Welcoming Teagasc to the OMELETTE partnership

A key milestone in this new phase is welcoming Teagasc, Ireland's Agriculture and Food Development Authority, as a new project partner.

Together with Teagasc, OMELETTE will explore how the Longevity Action Plan can be adapted to the Irish poultry sector and put into practice on Irish pilot farms. Two farms, representing different stages of the laying cycle, will be involved. Their experiences will help us understand how the approach works in the Irish context and identify opportunities to further improve and adapt the LAP.

First in-person meeting in Ireland in November

Preparations are already in full swing! The partners will meet in person in Ireland on 17 November 2026. This meeting will be an important opportunity for Teagasc, EPC and Pehestat to bring their expertise together, exchange knowledge about the Longevity Action Plan and discuss how it can best be adapted to the Irish situation.

The programme will include discussions on the needs and challenges of the Irish poultry sector, the organisation of farmer discussion groups and the next steps towards implementing the LAP on Irish pilot farms.

Meeting face-to-face will help turn the plans into concrete actions and establish a strong collaboration between the partners.
