The University of Leuven (KU Leuven) is the largest university in Belgium in terms of research funding and expenditure. In the Times Higher Education ranking KU Leuven is ranked as the 14h European university, while in the Reuters Top 100 of the World’s most innovative institutions, KU Leuven is listed as the first European university, for the fourth year in a row. In Horizon 2020, KU Leuven was granted 669 projects (€ 378,5 million), ranking as fourth HES institution with regard to number of signed grants. At KU Leuven the group of M3-BIORES at the Division of Animal and Human Health Engineering (department of Biosystems) focuses on developing novel monitoring techniques for use in animal health and welfare. We actively teach these methods through engineering courses at MSc and PhD level, and carry out PhD and MSc student supervision in real-time algorithm development.
